Reconfigurable Antenna Array With Reduced Power Consumption—–Synthesis Methods and Experimental Validations in <i>S</i>-Band

The design and realization of a reconfigurable antenna array operating in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band is presented. Array synthesis methods are developed to reduce power consumption experimentally validated by measurements. composed 16 dual-polarized dipoles whose excitations provided baseband arbitrary waveform generator. able radiate simultaneously two or more focused beams one plane over scanning range ±45°; these can be reconfigured at will. To achieve radiation pattern requirements while reducing as much possible consumption, specific tools developed. In particular, way synthesize sparse arrays frequencies having common switched-OFF antennas proposed described. This strategy, together with uniform amplitude excitations, enables harness characteristics amplifiers. energy-efficient means that mobile operators share same array. Several representative measurement results prototype validate performances demonstrate achieved reduction consumption.
